First Aid at Work (FAW)

This comprehensive HSE-compliant course meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 and HSE guidance (L74). It provides delegates with the full range of skills needed to act as a qualified First Aider in the workplace, valid for 3 years. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 further require employers to carry out a suitable and sufficient risk assessment to determine the level of first aid provision needed, including the number of trained first aiders. This course is suitable for higher-risk environments or workplaces with larger numbers of employees.

- Managing Unconscious Casualties & Resuscitation (CPR/AED) – Assessing responsiveness, airway management, recovery position, CPR techniques, and use of an Automated External Defibrillator in accordance with UK Resuscitation Council guidelines
- Recognising and Managing Heart Attacks & Strokes – Identifying the signs and symptoms of cardiac events and cerebrovascular accidents, and providing appropriate first aid while awaiting emergency services
- Managing Epilepsy, Diabetes & Anaphylaxis – Understanding seizure management, recognising hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia, and administering auto-injectors for severe allergic reactions
- Treating Severe Bleeding, Burns & Scalds – Applying pressure dressings, managing catastrophic bleeding, cooling burns, and recognising the severity of thermal injuries
- Managing Fractures, Sprains & Spinal Injuries – Immobilisation techniques, recognising signs of spinal injury, and safe handling of musculoskeletal trauma
- Dealing with Eye Injuries & Head Injuries – Appropriate irrigation techniques, recognising signs of concussion, and managing embedded objects
- Managing Shock, Hypothermia & Heat-Related Illness – Recognising and treating circulatory shock, hypothermia, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke in workplace settings

Employers have a legal duty under these regulations to provide adequate first aid arrangements for their employees. Failure to comply may result in enforcement action by the Health and Safety Executive. Certificates issued upon successful completion are valid as stated and are recognised by the HSE. Training is delivered by qualified instructors holding a current First Aid at Work Training qualification and relevant teaching credentials. The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR) requires employers to report certain workplace incidents – having trained first aiders supports compliance with these obligations.
