First Aid at Work – Blended Learning (FAW Blended)

This HSE-compliant blended learning course combines online theory with face-to-face practical training, offering a flexible route to achieving the full First Aid at Work qualification. Delegates complete the knowledge-based modules online at their own pace before attending a 6-hour practical session to demonstrate competency. The course meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 and HSE guidance (L74), and the certificate is valid for 3 years. The HSE recognises blended learning as an acceptable method of delivering first aid training, provided the practical elements are assessed face-to-face by a competent trainer and the training organisation holds appropriate accreditation.

Note: Delegates must complete the online learning component before attending the practical day.

Practical CPR, AED & Resuscitation Skills – Hands-on demonstration and assessment of airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, recovery position, and Automated External Defibrillator use under supervised conditions
Scenario-Based Casualty Assessment – Practical application of the primary and secondary survey in simulated workplace emergency scenarios
Managing Injuries: Bleeding, Burns & Musculoskeletal Trauma – Practical application of wound management, fracture immobilisation, treatment of burns and scalds, and use of appropriate dressings
Choking Management in Adults – Demonstrating competence in recognising and treating airway obstructions using back blows and abdominal thrusts
Assessing & Responding to Medical Emergencies – Scenario-based assessment of conditions including heart attacks, strokes, choking, anaphylaxis, seizures, and shock
Safe Moving & Handling of Casualties – Understanding when and how to move a casualty safely, including log-roll techniques and the use of recovery position for spinal awareness
Communication with Emergency Services & Handover – Practising effective communication with paramedics, providing accurate handover information, and understanding the chain of survival
